It's a sad day for VR fans with confirmation that the consumer release date of HTC's virtual reality HMD the Vive has been pushed back to April 2016.
Originally planned for a limited release in December 2015 with a full release in early 2016, many had hopes of getting a Vive under the christmas tree this year. Today HTC put an end to those hopes and the rampant online speculation via their blog.
"We will be starting the new year by making an additional 7,000 units available to developers followed by commercial availability in April 2016" HTC Blog
The reason for the change in plans is still unknown but seems likely the delay will play right into the hand of Facebook owned Oculus VR who are still on track to release their Rift VR HMD in Q1 2016. If Oculus can bring their product to market before HTC there's a good chance many who were planning on picking up a Vive in December will end up jumping ship to Oculus.
